PA 202 Nitrate resin

PA 202 is a strongly basic anion exchanger for removing nitrate and nitrite from drinking water and aquariums. 

The nitrate resin PA 202 is being used more and more, especially for aquarium fish keepers. In an aquarium, nitrate is constantly re-forming due to the excretion of the fish and the breakdown process in the filter. Nitrate can only be removed from the aquarium by using a nitrate filter with PA 202 or by changing the water. 

Use of PA 202 in aquatics 

The nitrate resin PA 202 is specially made for the aquarium. The PA 202 used as a nitrate filter keeps the nitrate content in the aquarium at a consistently low level; without a nitrate filter, the nitrate content always fluctuates between a minimum and a maximum value. The minimum value is set immediately after a water change and rises to the maximum value until the next water change. The sometimes very high nitrate values between water changes have a negative effect on the well-being of the fish.

Nitrates have no detectable colour, taste or smell at the concentrations involved in drinking water supplies, and they do not cause discoloration of plumbing fixtures, so they remain undetectable to our senses. This is especially important for newborn babies of up to six months because their digestive systems are particularly susceptible to nitrates.

NITR Filter Cartridge is a macroporous strong base anion resin that is specially designed for the removal of nitrates  (NO3) and nitrite (NO2) from water for potable processes. The macroporous matrix and special ion exchange group functionality imparts ideal nitrate making this resin particularly suitable for nitrate removal even when moderate to high concentrations of sulfate are present. Hence this resin gives superior performance in nitrate removal applications when compared with standard exchange resins.

Removal efficiency decreases as the cartridge approaches exhaustion. Nitrate levels over 50mg/l (ppm) will usually need more frequent cartridge changes. (High nitrate users should also consider an RO system with a nitrate cartridge added).
